Richard Field

About Richard Field

Richard Qualified with a BSc in Visual Arts and Psychology, alongside qualified teacher status in 1999. He pursued a career both as an art teacher and later as an Educational child Psychologist alongside becoming a Foster Carer in 2011. Richard has based much of his current portfolio of work on his experiences working with young people and families with mental health difficulties. Richard started stone carving in 2007 and working in glass in 2009. His interest in mixing different mediums led to him experimenting with wax, metal, taxidermy and glass over the subsequent years. Richard currently has an art studio in ASC Studios in South East London where he works. Recent work has focused on figurative wax sculptures cast in bronze which depict aspects of mental health. Richard has used steel joists, ropes and sheet glass to highlight element of strength, fragility and restraint when mounting and exhibiting his work. Alongside this Richard teaches art to groups of children carrying out joint projects with children and the community to enhance and develop creativity.

Biography / CV of Richard Field

Richard is a sculptor who also works as a Psychologist and as a foster carer. His sculptural work focuses on figurative nudes and he enjoys playing with the juxtaposition of the materials he uses. He has spent some time working in stone and is currently working in wax, glass and metal to build a portfolio of multi-media work based on mental health.

Richard is keen to capture a moment in time, both in movement but also specific emotions within the models he uses for his sculpture. He uses his experience as a psychologist and a foster carer as invaluable reference points to plan and influence his pieces.
